Returning as defending Champion at The Grove Junior Open

12 year old Ava Gadsby delivers another outstanding performance at the mixed Under 18 Junior Open Championship at The Grove

Date: 14th August 2024

Returning as defending champion at the Glorious @golfatthegrove @thegrovehotel playing again in the Under 18’s Mixed Junior Open Championships. Gadsby continued her form and played very well again shooting a gross 74 and nett 68 leaving her tied 3rd and losing out on count back. A great performance against top mixed under 18 golfers.

But what made it even more special was meeting Ghana Golf Champion Julienne Amezado

Julienne, commonly known as Afi, is from Kissehman, in Accra, Ghana. She lives with her parents and five siblings in a one-bedroom apartment. She was introduced to golf during the COVID-19 pandemic as part of an initiative by the Fafali Organization to engage underserved children, and she quickly developed a passion for the sport. Each year, the Fafali Organization @fafaliorg raises funds to support her dream of playing golf in the USA or UK. While this requires significant resources that could be used for other children, it also brings much-needed attention to their project, which relies on support. Ava said “The awesome team at @roystongolfclub supporting Afi, kindly thought of me as a player to play with and we were trying to find a date. So it was quite a serendipitous moment us being drawn together at the grove. She’s not only a very special person but a wonderful golfer and a joy to be around. I’m helping her enter a few more tournaments so if anyone has anymore forthcoming please do get in touch. As it would be great to get her playing all our wonderful courses here in the Uk. And selfishly I’m hoping to play with her again”.
